Platinum Prices

2010 update: Platinum markets have been fluctuating dramatically over the past several years. It would take a team of elves to keep pricing updated even on this small site. Since the majority of the cost of platinum wedding rings is the cost of the platinum, prices are more dramatically affected by the market. You can Google "platinum prices" to see current market prices. Then:

The cost of a workshop, platinum, and sales tax for a pair of flat, 1.5mm thick rings, 4mm & 6mm in width:

$2126    at a platinum market of $1000/oz.
$2357    at $1200/oz.
$2591    at $1400/oz.
$2826    at $1600/oz.
$3061    at $1800/oz.
$3295    at $2000/oz.

Platinum is heavy, expensive, and is sold by weight. If your heart desires platinum but your budget does not, you can make lighter rings. Here are a few examples of prices for making rings of different weights. They are based on a market of $1232/oz:

$2425    6mm x 1.5mm & 4mm x 1.5mm
$2150    5mm x 1.5mm & 3mm x 1.5mm
$1950    5mm x 1.25mm & 3mm x 1.25mm
$1650    4mm x 1mm & 3mm x 1mm

These prices reflect your total fee, including workshop, precious metal & sales tax.

You are also welcome to make half-round bands.
Platinum Alloys
950 Pt/Ru - 95% Platinum with Ruthenium. Most wedding bands we make at my studio are of this alloy.

900 Pt/Ir - 90% Platinum with Iridium. We usually use this alloy when customers book late and Pt/Ru is not in stock at time of order. It is the alloy traditionally used in jewelry many years ago.

The price of 900 Platinum is about 5% lower than the 950 alloy. It is slightly softer and easier to work with. Color differences are minimal. I am happy to purchase 900 Platinum for customers on request.
