| Moissanite's colorful sparkle and durability make it an excellent diamond alternative for an engagement ring. Moissanite will not scratch in normal use, leaves a small environmental footprint, and costs much less than diamond. |
 moissanite engagement ring |
Moissanite is named after Dr. Henri Moissan who discovered it in a meteorite in the early 1900's. Moissanite is a form of Silicon Carbide that is transparent, highly refractive, and extremely durable, making it an exellent stone for jewelry use.
Scientists were able to grow Moissanite in the late 1990s in gem size and quality. It is available in many standard gemstone cuts. I sell loose lab-grown Moissanite for approximately $400 - $600 per carat.
If you're at all inclined to make a Moissanite engagement ring, I encourage you to do so. It is as much fun to make a ring out of moissanite as diamond, at a lower cost in every way.
If you are interested in buying Moissanite, loose or for a workshop, please call or submit an inquiry via my contact page. |
