Setting your diamond is the exciting last step in making an engagement ring from scratch. You of course have the option to do it yourself in my workshop.
If you do not already have an heirloom diamond, I recommend one of three options for purchasing:
1) I sell conflict-free diamonds and gemstones from respected wholesalers within the industry. Diamonds over 1/2 carat are accompanied by a certificate and laser inscribed serial number. Your diamond can also be inscribed with your own personal message up to 30 characters for a small extra fee. Alternately, I can purchase diamonds repurposed from other jewelry. While a more eco-friendly alternative, this supplier is much smaller and does not have as large a stock as other wholesalers.
2) It is easy to buy diamonds online from major retailers like James Allen or Diamond.com.
They sell diamonds at a fair price and offer full refunds if you are not happy with your diamond. In general, they sell good diamonds at market price. The disadvantage: it is difficult to trace the source of a diamond bought online. Note: New York State now charges sales tax from major online diamond vendors. If you live in another state, buying online may offer you a price advantage.
3) If you prefer a brick-and-mortar store, there is no easier place than the diamond district on 47th St. between 5th & 6th. There you can look at your diamonds in person, shop around, maybe find deals, maybe get ripped off. I do not recommend shopping in the diamond district unless you know what you are doing.
Please note: I absolutely will not be responsible for any loss or damage to gemstones purchased from an outside supplier. You will be required to sign a waiver prior to setting your stone in my workshop.

When it comes to setting your diamond in our workshop, there are a few factors beyond the "four C's" that are important. Round diamonds are the easiest to set. Diamonds with significantly uneven girdles will be difficult for you to set. Highly included diamonds are more likely to break while setting. Really ugly diamonds will depress me and your girlfriend.
While the shape, size, and quality of a diamond are mostly a matter of taste, I highly recommend reading:

I also offer white, blue, yellow and pink cultured diamonds as well as Moissanite and other gemstones. For more information, visit the cultured diamonds page.
